WJW visits the Chicago Architecture Biennial

On a recent early fall Friday afternoon, WJW staff travelled over to the Chicago Cultural Center to explore the newly opened Chicago Architecture Biennial exhibition, on view from September 19th, 2019 – January 5th, 2020.

Titled …and other such stories, the 2019 Chicago Architecture Biennial is rooted in close readings of the spatial realities of its host city, inviting practitioners and the public to engage with architecture and the built environment as prisms through which to reflect upon social, geopolitical, and ecological processes that affect our collective past, present, and future.

This third edition of the Biennial is particularly inspired by Chicago, moving beyond the grand narratives of the city’s architectural heritage to explore the history and conditions that have and continue to shape its urban development. With a broader view on the field of architecture, it embraces practices that span building, design, planning, visual art, policymaking, education, and activism.

After taking in the exhibition, staff were able to enjoy a happy hour beverage together to ring in the weekend. An educational and enjoyable time was had by all!
