WJW visits Clark-Estes Apartments

WJW staff recently visited Clark-Estes Apartments to view the project site while construction is underway.

After meeting at general contractor Walsh Construction’s office to gear up in hardhats, vests, and safety glasses, the WJW team set out to the site at 7070 N. Clark Street for a tour led by JaneJacquie, and Todd to observe the progress.

Clark-Estes Apartments is a moderately-scaled, mixed-use, transit-oriented development located in the Rogers Park neighborhood. The development helps to heal the fragmented streetscape along Clark Street and provide a link between surrounding residential and commercial uses.

The project consists of a four-story, 58,000 s.f. building with first floor retail and parking, and three residential floors above containing 54 affordable housing units. The site is surrounded by transit options – Metra is one block away, and three bus lines and two CTA stations are within a five to ten-minute walk. The project qualifies as a Transit-Oriented Development under Chicago’s zoning ordinance. The development has been designed with City of Chicago and Enterprise Green Communities requirements for sustainable design in mind.

WJW is dedicated to the pursuit of continuing education and learning by seeing our work in the field. Since 1991, Worn Jerabek Wiltse Architects has been designing responsible, sustainable developments in Chicago and throughout the Midwest, including senior living and supportive housing, healthcare and community developments, affordable housing and mixed-use housing, and renovation and adaptive reuse developments.  By observing work in progress, the whole team is able to gather first-hand insights into this process.
