Having been raised in Alaska, Mariah brings a unique perspective when it comes to understanding the importance of designing spaces for different cultures and communities. She knows first-hand the power of design has on creating accessible and meaningful opportunities that lead to lasting change for all, especially for those belonging to communities whose voices have been erased or silenced in history.

Expertise

Reconstructing memory in traumatized architecture- what it means to preserve memory (and consequently tradition and culture) in communities and spaces that have been affected by traumatic events.

Key Focus

Designing spaces for all communities. Mariah wants all people to be able to feel seen and honored in the spaces she creates in all aspects of the design - functionality, materiality, sustainability, flexibility/adaptability.

Research Interests

Historic preservation and sustainable building methods and materials.

Passionate About

Traveling, picking up new and fun hobbies, trying new food, art/farmers'/vintage markets, museums, consuming and sharing silly bits of new media in the form of videos, art, and tv.

Someone once told me to 'build something beautiful,' and architecture allows me to do just that - not only in the aesthetic sense, but in the way it creates and fosters community and opportunity for all.
