Heidi Shares Insights on Affordable Housing Design

An overview of design for projects using LIHTC financing

Heidi recently participated in a panel discussion organized by the Illinois Housing Council and AIA Chicago. She joined Cristian Yugsi of The Resurrection Project, Trisha Girdwood of LBBA Architects, and Claudia Rodriguez of Preservation of Affordable Housing to provide an in-depth training on affordable housing design in Illinois and beyond.

Many developers utilize Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) financing administered through the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) and the City of Chicago. While this financing is essential for affordable housing development, it also introduces specific design requirements and constraints. Heidi, Cristian, Trisha, and Claudia shared their perspectives as housing advocates and architects who have guided numerous affordable projects from concept to completion. The conversation helped demystify what can be a complex process.
