On the Boards: Nichols Tower
Reviving a historic Chicago building in North Lawndale
While construction is underway on the renovations of 108 units of multifamily housing in Homan Square, we have another project on the boards just around the corner: the interior renovation of Nichols Tower! For those familiar with Chicago's iconic Sears Tower in the Loop (now the Willis Tower), this is technically the second Sears Tower! Nichols Tower was the original Sears, Roebuck & Co. Merchandise Building Tower when it was built back in 1906, to house offices, water tanks and an observation deck. Standing at 14 stories and 250 feet tall, Nichols Tower is an important and iconic part of the Homan Square neighborhood, which is a mix of historic and newer buildings in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago sited on the original campus headquarters for the Sears Roebuck Company. The building was last rehabilitated in 2008 and achieved Chicago Landmark Status in 2015. The current renovation that WJW is part of will provide an interior refresh and much needed finish repairs to the main lobby and 14th floor event and meeting space. We are thrilled to be part of this important work in Homan Square!
Special thanks to our project partners The Foundation for Homan Square and IFF.
