Grand Opening of Hope Manor Village
Mike and John M. recently attended the official grand opening for Volunteers of America’s Hope Manor Village, a new development that will bring 36 affordable two-bedroom apartments to the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago.
The apartments will consist of a mix of 12 two-flat and four three-flat buildings on 16 vacant lots, all of which have been designed to fit within the existing character of the neighborhood.
Hope Manor Village is located on scattered sites in the six blocks surrounding Hope Manor II, a campus-style, permanent supportive housing community for single veterans and veterans with families that opened in 2014, and is an extension of a multi-phased project by Volunteers of America Illinois to provide affordable housing specifically designed for veterans, while also bringing needed economic development to the neighborhood. In conjunction with the future development of Englewood 21 near 61st and Halsted, this overall vision of VOA’s efforts in the neighborhood becomes the full Hope Manor Village.
Hope Manor Village is located near the 63rd Street corridor, part of Mayor Lightfoot’s INVEST South/West initiative, which comprehensively focuses on planning and funding tools along targeted corridors that have historically served as focal points for pedestrian activity, retail, services, transportation, public spaces and quality-of-life amenities for local residents.
Also in attendance at the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony were Nancy Hughes Moyer, President of Volunteers of America (VOA) Illinois, Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Alderman Stephanie Coleman, Chicago Department of Housing Commissioner Marisa Novara, and Executive Director of IHDA Kristin Faust.
