Hamlin Avenue Groundbreaking

Sertoma Star Service's latest permanent supportive housing community has begun construction.

Todd, Jane, John, and Tanushri recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hamlin Avenue Multi-Family Residences in Alsip, Illinois. A project of Sertoma Star Services, Hamlin Avenue will be a new construction two-story building containing 25 apartments for adults with disabilities. Residents will be able to live independently while also receiving support services from Sertoma. The project team includes the Housing Authority of Cook County, Brush Hill Development, and Blackwood Group.

Speakers at the event included Bob Straz, Chairman of the Sertoma Star Services Board of Directors and Mayor of Palos Heights; Kelly Berardelli, CEO and President of Sertoma Star Services; John Ryan, Mayor of Alsip; Senator Bill Cunningham; Representative Mary Gill; Karl Bradley, Deputy Director of Housing at the Cook County Department of Planning and Development; and the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA). The event was emceed by Gus van den Brink, the retiring Chief Executive Director for Sertoma. This was Gus's last public speaking event before retiring. WJW has worked with him on Union Avenue and Hamlin Avenue, and we wish him the best for his retirement!
