Groundbreaking for Andy’s Place Apartments in Jackson, Michigan
On April 29, a groundbreaking ceremony was held outside of Jackson, MI for the proposed Andy’s Place Apartments development.
This is a 51 unit permanent supportive housing development for people in recovery from opioid addiction. It will consist of two buildings: one with 40 one bedroom dwelling units and first-floor community and supportive service spaces and another building with 11 apartments for families.
A number of outdoor spaces will be provided, including gardening areas and a basketball court.Andy’s Place is a first-of-its-kind development in Michigan that will help to provide a permanent solution to this ongoing addiction crisis. A driving force behind the development is Mike Hirst, whose son, Andy, passed away in 2010 from a heroin overdose. Andy’s Place is being developed by Milner & Caringella, Inc., with funding from MSHDA and Cinnaire.
The groundbreaking was attended by a number of local dignitaries including the new Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer. Construction will be completed in 2020.
