Jane Presents on Urban Sketchers Symposium
Combining art and travel
For our monthly staff gathering recently, we had a special treat: Jane led a session about urban sketching! Last October, Jane traveled to Buenos Aires for the annual Urban Sketchers Symposium. Jane shared photos from her trip and described the philosophy of urban sketching - sketches can be done indoors or out, using the medium of your choice, but always in person and not from photographs. Urban Sketchers is a global organization, and people from all over the world come to the symposiums to learn new techniques and connect with fellow urban sketchers. Next year's symposium will be in Poznań, Poland!
Jane is not only an architect and avid urban sketcher, but also a watercolor painter. She interspersed her talk with several sketching exercises for the participants. Staff took advantage of the office views of the skyline from our River North location and had fun rendering the nearby buildings, L tracks, and classic Chicago water tower in pencil and marker. Check out some of Jane's beautiful photos and watercolors from her trip and the "throw-down" of our hasty sketches!
