Grand Opening of Newly Renovated Elgin Manor & Wing Schoolhouse

WJW is pleased to announce that two affordable housing renovation projects in Elgin are complete.

Mike and Michelle recently attended the grand opening and ribbon cutting for Elgin Manor and the Wing Schoolhouse. The grand opening was well attended with representatives from the developer, Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), as well as the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Mayor of Elgin, and building residents.

Elgin Manor, built in 1978, features 100 units of affordable senior housing. POAH acquired the site in 2019 and oversaw a 14-month renovation project that is the property's first substantial upgrade in several decades. The upgrade includes new HVAC systems, new windows, and bathroom renovations. All 100 units received modernization and renovations. WJW also redesigned the community room and lobby.

The Wing Schoolhouse was built in 1890 and was originally the Abbey Saunders Wing Schoolhouse. In 1980, the building was converted into multifamily housing. POAH acquired the property in 2019 and has overseen a substantial 11-month renovation project. The building contains 27 studio, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments. Renovations and upgrades were similar to those done for Elgin Manor - modern updates and renovations for all units, new windows and air conditioners, and bathroom upgrades, as well as updated lighting, flooring, and paint. The project also included landscaping and parking lot improvements.

WJW is proud to partner on these two projects that bring much-needed modernized affordable housing to Elgin residents. Congratulations to all involved with Elgin Manor and the Wing Schoolhouse on the completion of two successful projects!
