WJW visits Montclare Senior Residences of Calumet Heights
WJW staff recently visited Montclare Senior Residences of Calumet Heights to view the project site while construction is underway.
After meeting at general contractor Crane Construction’s site office to gear up in hardhats, vests, and safety glasses, the WJW team set out to the site for a tour led by David and Liezel to observe the progress.
Montclare Senior Residences of Calumet Heights is a large-scaled, residential, transit-oriented development located in the Calumet Heights neighborhood. The development is a redevelopment of a long-vacant lot on the south side of Chicago along the Stony Island Corridor.
The project consists of a seven-story, building containing 101 affordable housing units and 33 market rate units with associated common spaces. The site is surrounded by transit options, most notably the CTA bus stop right at the front of the site. The development has been designed with sustainability in mind. The project contains parking for electric vehicles that residents can use for charging.
WJW is dedicated to the pursuit of continuing education and learning by seeing our work in the field. Since 1991, Worn Jerabek Wiltse Architects has been designing responsible, sustainable developments in Chicago and throughout the Midwest, including senior living and supportive housing, healthcare and community developments, affordable housing and mixed-use housing, and renovation and adaptive reuse developments. By observing work in progress, the whole team is able to gather first-hand insights into this process.
