Mildred Wiley Wellness Hub Receives Chicago Recovery Plan Grant

The City of Chicago's Department of Planning and Development (DPD) announced finalists for their Winter 2024 Chicago Recovery Plan grants, and the Mildred Wiley Wellness Hub was awarded a $2 million grant!

WJW has been proud to partner on this important project, which will create an entirely new holistic health and education center on Bethel New Life's 9-acre campus in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. The Wellness Hub will feature a Horticenter, rooftop greenhouse, and community garden, and will offer wellness programs such as horticultural therapy and cooking classes. It will also provide resources to manage and prevent chronic diseases, opportunities for physical activities, and unique community gatherings.

The center will be named for Mildred Wiley, who was a community leader dedicated to improving the quality of life in Austin. She served as Senior Director of Community Services at Bethel New Life and passed away in 2019. The designs for the Mildred Wiley Wellness Hub aim to honor her legacy by creating a space that will improve the quality of life and health outcomes for neighborhood residents.

Thanks to Urbanize for publicizing this exciting grant award for the Mildred Wiley Wellness Hub.
