Topping Out Ceremony for Madison Apartments II

On the calm morning of August 20th, 2021, Phoenix Community Development Services hosted a topping out ceremony of Madison Apartments II, a Permanent Supportive Housing development designed by WJW with 24 dwelling units, supportive services for residents, and a job training center for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Connor was able to travel to Peoria to represent WJW and experience this significant milestone in the construction process. Chris Kahl, President/CEO of Phoenix Community Development Services gave an empowering speech to mark the occasion and highlight the importance of creating equitable housing opportunities for vulnerable populations.

All who were present were invited to sign a roof truss prior to its installation. A message, hand-written by Parahita and Todd was attached to the truss so they too could leave their mark. Once the final signature was signed, and the last sharpie was capped, the truss was lifted into the air. An uproar of cheers and applause from the crowd provided a fitting backtrack as the truss was secured at the center of the structure’s roof. Following the event, CORE Construction graciously provided a breakfast of blueberry pancakes, sausage, and eggs for all attendees to enjoy while overlooking the soon to be complete apartment building.
